BURLINGAME FIRE DEPARTMENT
EXPLORER PROGRAM

This is a joint venture between Burlingame Fire Department and The Boy Scouts of America.
Its purpose is to allow young men and women from the ages of 14* to 20 to explore the rewarding field of firefighting.
Explorers participate in a variety of training programs that may lead to a career opportunity by developing leadership skills
while
learning the art of firefighting.

This program is currently servicing Burlingame Fire Dist. #6, Harveyville, and Scranton. If anyone within our district or
nearby area is interested in joining our program to experiance a small part of firefighting please contact the department at

* 14 year old applicants must have completed the 8th grade.

Fire Behavior

Fire Control and Extinguishment

Apparatus (truck) Operations

Water Supply and Fire Streams

Forcible Entry

Ventilation

and a variety of other topics

Hands on Extrication Training: Car donated by Dax and Christina Lewis
Ice Rescue Training at the City Pool
Combat Challenge
Search and Rescue Training

The Burlingame Fire Department Explorer post instills values and ethical decision making skills by emphasizing six experience areas: career, leadership, service, social, fitness, and outdoors, while promoting the Brotherhood of Firefighting.

MISSION STATEMENT
It is the mission of Learning for Life to serve others by helping to instill
core values in young people and in other ways prepare them to make ethical
choices throughout their lives so they can achieve their full potential.
