City Council
Burlingame has a Mayor-Council type government. Meetings are scheduled the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m. and are held in the Council Chamber of City Hall. The Mayor presides at all meetings of the City Council and recommends measures she deems advisable. The Mayor has the power to appoint all members to City Boards with the consent of the majority of the Council members. The Mayor votes on Council business only in case of a tie vote and has the power to sign or veto any ordinance passed by the Council.
If you would like to place an item on the agenda, please stop by City Hall and talk to the City Administrator. There is a short form to fill out so that appropriate information can be included in the council packets to help ensure prompt action can be taken by the City. There is also a Citizen Comments section at the beginning of each meeting. This time is set aside for citizens to express their comments in front of the council. The council will not address these items during the meeting, but may direct staff to place the item on a future agenda for consideration.
The mayor is elected for a two year term and the five council members are elected to four year terms. This governing body continues to make it a progressive city capable of generating its own power and they have secured a permanent water supply. We are proud of the progress and growth the city has undertaken the past few years.
