Notary Service

The City of Burlingame has one notary public at City Hall during regular business hours, which is a free service to the public.  The purpose of a notary is to prevent fraud and forgery.  A notary acts as an official, unbiased witness to the identity of the person who signs the document.  As defined in K.S.A. 53-107 a Kansas notary public has the following six major duties:

1.    Take acknowledgements,

2.    Administer oaths and affirmations,

3.    Take a verification upon oath or affirmation,

4.    Witness or attest a signature,

5.    Certify or attest a copy

6.    Note a protest of a negotiable instrument.

All notary acts require that the person signing the document(s) must appear before the notary public.  This person must also provide proper identification so that the notary can ensure that he/she is the person signing the document.  Please do not ask a notary to notarize anything without your presence.  DO NOT sign your document(s) until you are in the presence of the notary.
