Community

Burlingame's small town atmosphere allows it to be a great family community. Burlingame is conveniently located between Topeka and Emporia on US 56 highway about 10 miles north of Osage City. Burlingame is located in Osage County, Kansas. It was originally established as Council City and was an important stop on the Santa Fe Trail. In the 2000 census the population was 1,017 and the median age in Burlingame is 42. The main street is covered in bricks. What is really unique about the main street is its width. The street is this wide because the oxen pulling wagons had to turn around in the middle of the street. Every Friday and Saturday night you can see the local high school students cruising the main street.
